Science is Alive

The Life Cycle of the Frog

Have you been asked to go out and help catch frogs or tadpoles yet? Great! We are studying the life cycle of the frog and the students are very curious. Unfortunately we have no live specimens here so many of the youngsters have decided to find and study the species at home.

Discuss with your son or daughter the six stages of the frog life cycle and what happens during each one. You'll be surprised by the use of vocabulary like amphibian and metamorphosis. Have them sharing interesting facts they learned when conducting their research.

You're Invited!

International Dot Day

                                          Global Connection

Friday, September 13th was Internationl Dot Day. We celebrated with 1,000 classrooms around the world and the astronauts on the International Space Station. Together we read The Dot by Peter Reynolds.

We proudly wore our dots on our hands throughout the day.

The message Peter Reynolds wanted us to learn . . .
                   just get started - TRY

Following the read aloud students were given a piece of plain white paper just like Vashti. They did some thinking about something that was hard for them to do. They were then encouraged to fill the page with that thing.

The DOTS of The Happy Little Hurleys can be found on the Coolidge Facebook page. Check us out.

Just Right Bags Filled

               Students Personalize Reading Bags

What's more fun than a bag full of books?  . . . the opportunity to decorate the bag any way you wish and to spread out around the classroom with plenty of uninterrupted reading time to travel to around the world, launch into space, befriend wild animals, or discover a fantasy land.
