Making Ten

The Hurleys are busy making ten. We use tens frame, number bonds, place value charts, dominoes, sticks, and drawings to compose and decompose the numbers 1 through 10. We find friendly numbers to help us learn all the possibilities for ten. It's fun and exciting! We'd love to share it. Ask your son/daughter to show you all the ways they have learned to make 10. The link below is how we introduced the unit. Watch it together.

Global Read Aloud

The Happy Little Hurleys will once again participate in the Global Read Aloud. For a six week period in October and November we will join 1,000 classes throughout the world to read a common text and share our insights. This year the primary students will undertake an author study with Peter Reynolds. We will explore The Dot, ish, North Star, Going Places, and Sky Color. We have been partnered with a second grade class in Texas and will Skype with them weekly to discuss the texts and our connecting activities. Be sure to watch for the GRA materials that come home.

Hurleys are Herpetologists

The Happy Little Hurleys are completing and in-depth study of the life cycle of the frog and have been deemed to be certified herpetologists. Watch for you son/daughter to bring home an inclusive lap book and take the opportunity to discuss the learning with your child. The journal includes fabulous facts learned during whole group and independent research, observations at Jordan Pond, notes from interactive videos, and detailed scientific drawing to accompany the informational writing. We are proud of our rigorous and challenging work in this unit.
