Rotary Readers

Monday morning all the second grade classrooms in Shrewsbury welcomed a guest from the Shrewsbury Rotary into their classrooms. Our Rotary Reader was the Reverend Clifford Gerber, retired minister of the Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, and past president of the Rotary. Reverend Gerber came bearing a bag of Caldecot books for our class library - Locomotive, Flora, Sleep Like a Tiger, and Journey. Reverend Gerber was kind enough to read Sleep Like a Tiger and Locomotive with the students. Together they discussed the difference between the two texts - fiction versus non-fiction and made thoughtful connections to other texts they had read like Where the Wild Things Are. We are very grateful for this community service project. However, in their thank you notes to Reverend Gerber the students had one suggestion - next year the Rotary should read to third graders!
