The Happy Little Hurleys are happily ensconced in room three and are settling in nicely to life as a second grader. As one student described it, "Its great having our own place here!" , a reference to the fact that the four air conditioned classrooms in the portables house only the second grades. This simple statement is so true. Having all four rooms together allows for greater collaboration among students and staff, and provides unlimited opportunities for mixed grade level groupings to enrich student learning.
We have unpacked and organized our supplies, modeled lunchroom, hallway, and classroom expectations, and prepped our reading, writing and math journals. We are off and running! This week we will begin to follow our regular daily schedule introducing ELA routines for reading, writing, and spelling, and Math routines for our new program Math in Focus. Homework will be introduced one activity at a time this week.
